COVID-19: What New Yorkers Need to Know

Unemployment: 

DOL: State Unemployment Insurance 
New York State is waiving the 7 day waiting period for Unemployment insurance benefits for people who are out of work due to the Coronavirus (COVID-19) closures or quarantines.
$600 in additional weekly unemployment benefits will be made available to all New Yorkers; and the period covered by unemployment benefits is being extended for another 13 weeks, for total of 39 weeks

 

Job Opportunities: 

Paid Leave: 

NYS workers  have up to 10 weeks of paid leave
FMLA provides for up to 12 weeks of unpaid leave
Guaranteed job protection and pay for quarantined New Yorkers

 

Debt Payments: 

New Yorkers who owe money to the state, effective immediately, will no longer have to pay their student debt, medical debt, and other forms of state-referred debt, for at least 30 days
