STRONG AFRICAN AMERICAN FAMILIES (SAAF)

ABOUT THE PROGRAM

SAAF is the first program of its kind in Western New York. It builds on the strengths of African American families, support parents and youth during the transition from early adolescence to the teen years, and helps them learn how to manage and avoid risky and dangerous behaviors. SAAF celebrates African Americans' resilience and many strengths to effectively deal with racism, reduce risky behaviors in youth, and develop a stronger sense of family values and racial pride.

Youth ages 10-14 and their caregivers meet separately, then together as a family. Sessions include games, discussions, arts and crafts and more, all focused on promoting positive youth development and family relationships.
