ASSESSMENT AND PLANNING

ABOUT THE PROGRAM

Assessment and Planning in Education is an EPIC-guided process of evaluating your school's current family engagement practices. We utilize several processes to develop an extensive assessment and in turn, a comprehensive report of our findings. This information can then be used to develop an in-depth family engagement plan. Plans include both short term and long term goals that are customized to your community and school culture.

Family Engagement is a shared responsibility between schools and other community agencies, where they are committed to reaching out to engage families in meaningful ways. In turn, families are committed to actively supporting their children's learning and development.

Why It Matters:

Strong family engagement practices:

  • create stronger relationships
  • enhance early literacy
  • lead to greater school readiness
  • increase student enrollment and attendance
  • improve social skills and overall behavior
  • increase the likelihood of graduation and pursuing higher education
  • increase staff satisfaction and retention

All components of EPIC's Family Engagement Assessment & Planning come with a report of findings and a recommended plan of action, with customized short term and long term goals. Packages are completely customized to your school’s wants and needs.

Offerings include:

  • Family Engagement Surveys: Utilizing the PTA's Power of Partnership surveys to request and evaluate feedback from families, schools and staff.
  • Differentiated Family Engagement Training: Hosting a 3-hour training for up to 40 staff on the stages and barriers of engagement and the impact of poverty. Create usable strategies to engage all families.
  • Comprehensive Interviews: Facilitating comprehensive interviews with the administration, Family Engagement or School Management Teams.
  • Family-Friendly Walk-Through: This is used to assess the family friendliness of the school buildings and surroundings, the climate of the staff and culture of the school.
  • Document Review: EPIC will review policies, parent communications, Title 1 Plan, social media and code of conduct as it relates to family engagement.
  • Focus Groups: These groups are utilized to gather engagement information, including strengths and challenges. Focus group questions are customized for optimal impact.
