EPIC Announces Two New Board Members

BUFFALO, NY – EPIC-Every Person Influences Children is pleased to announce two new members to their Board of Directors: Brielynn Bell of Wegmans and Francesca Mesiah of Kaleida Health.

"Brielynn and Francesca bring a wealth of knowledge and experience to EPIC's Board," says Tara N. Burgess, EPIC's Executive Director. "Their commitment to community, equity and overall health is inspiring, and we are honored to have them join our Board this year."

As the Diversity & Inclusion Champion for Wegmans' Buffalo division, Bell measures and tracks diversity metrics, recruitment, community relations and leads D&I conversations with store leadership and the community. She also oversees their Management Intern Program for the Buffalo division.

"My passion for DEI is something that I live and breathe inside and outside of the workplace," says Bell. "If you want to see changes with DEI, it starts with self-awareness, listening with the intent to understand, empathy and respect. With those key attributes in mind, we can efficiently make change."

Mesiah has been with Kaleida for 16 years. She currently is a Senior Marketing Associate in their Community Health department. Mesiah leads the organization's outreach programs and services, as well as serving on the hospital's DEI and Accreditation committees. She is also the Executive Director of the Near East Side and West Side Task Force.

"EPIC has demonstrated great work with families in the Western New York community," says Mesiah. "I am pleased to join their Board and support their mission."

EPIC celebrated its 40th anniversary in 2020, and shifted its programming to an entirely virtual model in response to the pandemic. With support from the Board, the Parenting Doesn't Stop Project was created, a new collection of resources for families struggling with their mental, physical and socio-emotional health, as well as parenting in a pandemic.

"Parenting still takes a village," says Burgess. "Now, it's partly virtual. We are fortunate to have an innovative and supportive Board of Directors that is committed to helping families, regardless of conditions."
