| Families in Transition is a program designed to help parents facing a variety of challenges acquire the parenting skills and knowledge they need to once again become positive influences in the lives of their children. |
Over the past decade, Families in Transition has served thousands of parents by successfully helping both mothers and fathers retain or regain custody of their children, while enhancing their ability to positively impact their children's future.
Evaluation of the program provides evidence that participants improve their confidence, attitude, and knowledge, while decreasing their feelings of isolation. A scientific research study conducted by the University at Buffalo indicated that this program is very effective at increasing positive parenting skills, improving family cohesion, improving parent/child relationships, increasing parental involvement in the school, and reducing the risk for family stress. Further evidence suggests that parents who have completed the program change their discipline behavior from yelling and hitting, to talking and the use of timeouts.
Each of these outcomes is directly linked to the Families in Transition program through evidence-based research.
