About

Families in Transition is a program designed to help parents facing a variety of challenges acquire the parenting skills and knowledge they need to once again become positive influences in the lives of their children.

About Families in Transition

EPIC understands that many well-intentioned people struggle with personal challenges, such as substance abuse, emotional health issues, custody matters, and domestic violence, yet remain passionate about their roles as parents. Families in Transition is a program designed to help these parents acquire the parenting skills and knowledge they need to once again become positive influences in the lives of their children.

The Families in Transition program serves parents who are referred by the courts or other agencies, as well as some parents who are not involved with the courts but are seeking support on their own to help them overcome personal challenges that interfere with being effective parents.

Funded by the Office of Alcohol and Substance Abuse (OASAS) and United Way of Buffalo and Erie County, the program works closely with family courts to provide intensive parenting programs based on EPIC's highly effective delivery model and complemented with supportive aspects such as stress reduction, conflict resolution, and small group sizes. Additional emotional check-in and grounding exercises help prepare participants for the workshops and create a positive environment conducive to open dialogue.

Group discussions are confidential and led by highly trained EPIC workshop facilitators. The program is delivered as a 10-week series that includes discussions on a variety of topics related to parenting, literacy, emotional growth, communication, non-violence, and more.

Families in Transition is currently offered to parents in Buffalo and Niagara Falls, New York, with over 500 parents served annually.
